What's a good 50s formal hair style?

I already know about the website www.fiftiesweb.com (or .net or something). It doesn't seem to help all that much. I have just below shoulder length fine blonde hair. What kind of style can I do for a formal look?What's a good 50s formal hair style?
And I can see why that site doesn't help unless of course you want a Lucile Ball look!!!

Do a Google search on ';formal hairstyles';; 1950 Formal Hairstyles. Then go from there you will find something there are tons of examples!!

I was looking at a beautiful 50's style (could have been earlier but it was still around then) that involved ';finger waving';!! That affect can be achieved today with the fancy double-barrel irons giving it a somewhat more modern look.

Basically all you have to do is turn the 'double-barrel' iron for the first wave, then reverse the direction for the next, and continue with that pattern (up-down-up-down-up down) to the end. So easy!! With your long hair, just extend the pattern to the ends!!

You can vary the finish by leaving the tight pattern around the shape of your head but lightly tossel the hair in the shoulder area for a modern, lose style. So many variations Yahoo doesn't have the space for me to list but you know how to do your hair so experiment. Make sure you have someone do a couple trial runs wll before you begin to prepare for the function that day!!

Personally, I love that style as it did emit the 'formalness' of the period!!!What's a good 50s formal hair style?
the classic ';updo';
If your hair is full and natural, leave it as long as possible without damaged ends. If your forehead is a little high, tie in in a school-mom bun... if your forehead is too high, wear a little hat.
