How do I keep my curly hair from frizzing?

I have thin, but very curly hair and generally it's pretty easy to tame. But the second I step outside it's completely frizzy, especially at the top towards the roots. I try to avoid gels or heavy creams as they tend to make your hair very oily, or crunchy in texture. Is there something (perhaps a home remedy?) that I could use to tame and prevent frizz? How do I keep my curly hair from frizzing?
