What causes hair to become brittle and curly?

My hair is naturally straight but every now and then I find strands of brittle curly hair. Is my hair damaged? I had it permed when I was a kid. Could that be the problem? What causes hair to become brittle and curly?
Nope, it's normal to have a few brittle hairs here and there if your hair is naturally straight. It can't be perfectly straight--that's pretty much impossible. I have mostly straight hair as well and find odd curly hairs like that all the time. I'm sure everyone has them. :) There shouldn't be anything to worry about as long as these ';damaged'; hairs don't increase.

The perm wouldn't have anything to do with it because your hair is replaced about every seven years depending on the length. What causes hair to become brittle and curly?
If you have curly hair, chances are your hair tends to be dry, coarse and brittle. It also tends to frizz up, doesn't it?

To combat the frizzies, refrain from blowing hair dry. Adding heat to air only increases the problem. Instead, finger-comb hair, letting curls air-dry. (Luckily, because your hair tends to be dry, so you don't need to wash hair more than a couple times a week). If you must use a blow dryer, use a diffuser and dry by cupping hair with your hands from below (never scrunch curls, you'll invite frizz). One tip we learned from a curly haired friend: Don't rub hair dry with a towel, instead squeeze moisture out with paper towels.
I do not think it is the effect of the perm you had when a kid, I think it is something that just happens, if the whole head of hair went like that, then you would have a problem.
if youve had your hair cut since your perm its not from the perm.

i would say its probably split ends

Fix It: get your hair trimmed or get a new look (cutting it)

well i hope i helped even a little
